Trainspotters
Trainspotters are people who are fond of trains so that they stand on the platform and write notes (numbers) about all trains, wagons and so on. They are the best people to ask if you want to find out which train goes to a certain place or when it departs.
Another common way of transport is traveling by busses. You may travel long distances-especially where there are no rail tracks.
• Coaches are long distance busses-they even serve hot drinks, hot sandwiches, have usually a toilet on board and stop every 2 hours for refreshment. They go to remote areas, go usually to Ireland. Traveling by coaches is extremely cheap, compared to trains.
• Post busses-post vehicles that carry mail to distant estates. They have usually 5 seats for travelers. Their advantage is that they take you exactly to the place where you wish to get.
In large cities there are 2 kinds of busses:
traditional double-deckers, you buy the ticket in the bus from the conductor.
one-man operated busses-have 1 deck, the driver also sells tickets.
In each time you may use services of taxis or minicabs. It’s almost impossible to stop them in the street. You must go to taxi-ranks-it’s quite hard to find them, it’s in city plan every railway station has it.
taxi-office
Taxis are not expensive but you have to tip the driver, the tip=10% of the price
2 ways of paying
• taxis have meters (you may watch it)
• you may buy arrange the price before ride
If you choose busses-you may buy travel card (just valid for one day or 7 days). 1 day travel cards are much cheaper but you can use them only during off-peak hours, during peak hours you must pay fare.
