CLANS AND TARTANS
All true Scots belong to a clan, or tribe. Many names begin with Mac or Mc, which means son of. So the name McDonald means son of Donald. Each clan has its own tartan, a pattern used in the cloth of various kinds of kilt, Scotlands national costume. Green tartans were usually for hunting, and red for ceremonial wear.
