Housing
Maybe because most of them live in cities, the British dream of living in beatiful countryside. For hundreds of years rich people have built magnificent country houses, hiring ( najmout si ) the best architects, artists and gardeners to make them comfortable and elegant. The lawn must be cut once a week. This palaces with gardens are mostly opened twice a week for people.
During the 1960`s estates of high-rise concrete ( vysoké betonové ) blocks were buitl in many cities. Lots of people hated them and there have been huge problems with vadalism and crime. Now they are no longer buit. Many of them have been demolished. Today lots of people live in terraced houses. These are joined to their neighbours on both side and resemble ( připomíná) one long building. They have small front gardens. At the back they either have a smell garden or paved yard. Another type of house is back-to-back, which is joined not only to the houses on either side but also those behind, is no longer common as most have been knocked down ( rozmonotované, zbourané ).
